Today's post will be the final post for quilt month. I know there is a ton of stuff I didn't get to but, all that means is that I will have to do another quilt month next year.
Before I give my quick primer on color I want to thank everyone who has contributed in one way or another to quilt month. Despite the fact that I didn't find the time to post as often I would have liked I've really enjoyed it. I've learned a lot from all of you, found new blogs and I'd like to think I've made a few new friends as well. So thank you, you've all been really great.
There is a ton of information on the web about color and honestly it all gets very complicated. What follows is a simpified list of definitions that can be applied when thinking about combining colors for quilts.
Monochromatic - generally considered to be a peaceful color scheme and uses a single color in different shade. Think of it as taking a slice of the pie above.
Complementary - using direct opposites on the color wheel. e.g blue and orange (more on that in a minute) red and green.
Split Complementary - usually a little easier on the eye. Pick a hue, find its complementary color then use a color on either side of it. For example if you picked the middle orange slice of pie you would match it with the darker and the lighter blue slices of pie (not the middle, primary one).
Analogous - Any three hues that are adjacent to each other on the color wheel. Eg. Little blue, green, light green.
There are a ton of books on Amazon on the subject of color.

I know there are many, many quilting artists whose name did not get a mention here but time is limited at the moment so forgive me for those I've forgotten.
I hope you've all enjoyed quilt month. I'll be back in a week or so when I've caught my breath. Thanks again for all your wonderful contributions. You are the best!
